Event hopes to assist individuals with active warrants in obtaining new court date, potentially resolving cases, no arrests

Las Animas County and the City of Trinidad will host its first Warrant Forgiveness Day event on Friday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held in two locations at the Las Animas County Courthouse, 200 E. First Street and at City Hall at 135 N. Animas Street.

This event is for people with eligible active warrants in Las Animas County and the City of Trinidad. No appointment is necessary.

The goal is to assist individuals with active warrants in obtaining a new court date and potentially resolving their entire case. No arrests will take place at the event.

The public is encouraged to arrive early to ensure enough time for case review. Court officials, probation officers, public defenders and district attorneys will be available to help people clear eligible active warrants, resolve cases, set a new court date and/or get their case back on track.

Anyone with an active warrant or warrant for probation violation in Las Animas County for a class 4 drug felony, or a non-VRA class 4, 5 or 6 felony, misdemeanor, petty or traffic offense is eligible to participate in this event.

People with outstanding warrants who have been charged or convicted of an offense under the Victim Rights Act, such as assault, child abuse, unlawful sexual contact or domestic violence are not eligible for participation in this event.
