Barbara Marie Dolores Gomez

Barbara Marie Dolores Gomez devoted wife, mother, and friend Barbara Gomez, 81, died Friday, July 29, 2022, peacefully in her sleep at her sonʼs Lakewood home after she enjoyed a night surrounded by family.

Barbara was born on September 28, 1940, in Weston, CO, to Cipriano and Cleotilde Archuleta. She was the second youngest of 5 children and she was a free spirit with a wild heart, preferring to roam the countryside barefoot while always carrying a smile upon her face.

Barbara married Joe L. Gomez on November 29, 1959. Before she was married, she refused to dance with Joe even after multiple requests, but from their wedding day on, dancing became one of her favorite activities. They were married for 63 years and were blessed with 4 children; Larry, Janet, Bobby, and Bernadette.

Barbara worked as a cook and highway flagger, but her primary occupation was a homemaker. She would welcome any and every one into her home with open arms and a gracious smile, making her residence a hub of home cooked meals, everlasting stories, and respite when things got tough for others.

Barbaraʼs infectious energy carried into her love of bowling, ceramics, dancing, reading, and singing her favorite songs while going on rides through the countryside with her family. She was a devote Catholic and the church played an important role in her life. She was an active member of the Society of the Lady of Guadalupe, and an honorary member of The Casa.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Joe “Sonny” Gomez; children, Larry Gomez, Janet (Cory) Hall, Bobby Gomez and Bernadette Martinez; 5 grandchildren, Gabriel (Alicia) Gomez, Normandy (Dre) Morales, Angelee Fernadez, Peyton (Kaytlyn) Martinez and Mateo Gomez; 2 great grandchildren, Norée, Morales and Armando Morales.

Barbara will be remembered as the cornerstone that brought family and loved ones together by her generosity and uncon ditional love. Happiness followed her and flowed through her, making her the best of examples of how great someone can truly be.

Services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad, CO. The Rosary will start at noon. Eulogy and mass will start at 1 pm. F o l l owe d b y a procession to Weston, CO for burial services and a reception at the community center at Primero School, Weston, CO.
