Mayor, city manager, attend 100th anniversary celebration of lobbying group

Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico and Trinidad City Manager Steve Ruger attended the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Colorado Municipal League, a lobbying group for nearly 300 cities and towns statewide. Representatives from the founding membership, including Arvada, Boulder, Brush!, Cañon City, Fort Morgan, Grand Junction, Haxtun, Loveland, Pueblo, Windsor and Trinidad all attended, with Mayor Rico and Windsor Mayor Paul Rennemeyer recasting a vote of support for CML.

La Junta — 175 years ago Bent’s Old Fort was a trading post operated by Bent, St. Vrain, & Company as a private place of business that relied on peaceful relations with the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Comanche, Kiowa, and other Plains Nations who traded buffalo robes and livestock for the manufactured and commercial goods available at the fort. Bent’s Fort was never occupied or garrisoned by federal troops, however on numerous occasions they did pass by, often camping in the vicinity along the river.

‘Sending out a distress signal’: Denver reopens emergency center amid migrant influx

Denver is activating emergency services in anticipation of a wave of immigrants from Latin America after federal pandemic restrictions ended earlier this week. Denver reopened its Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Center in response to the end of Title 42, an emergency health regulation put in place under the Trump administration.

Jackson Street shooter takes 29-year plea deal for 2020 murder, sentencing set for late-May

A Trinidad woman who shot another Trinidad resident to death in 2020 took a plea deal this month that will mark her as a habitual felon. Gina Lynn Rael, age 26, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second-degree murder (a class two felony) and entered into a plea agreement with the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office that dismissed one count of first-degree murder (a class one felony).
