Council sparks utility relief with rate adjustments after rate study bungle

Issues with a recent adjustment to Trinidad’s water and sewer rates have been rectified, according to city officials, after the passage of two ordinances amending recent rate increases. The amending ordinances passed city council 7-0 Tuesday, May 2, after city officials notified the public that both a water rate and sewer rate study had led to customers being overcharged for the city-provided services.

Make way for the bicycles: Trinidad seeks to bring increased safety to local riders

Bicyclists in Trinidad will see additional pathways for safer riding as the city works to add bike lanes to a handful of streets. The bike lanes, which will be installed on parts of Kansas, Nevada and Colorado avenues, are being installed as the city said it continues its commitment to “improving the safety, accessibility and connectivity of cyclists throughout the city,” according to a letter to state officials seeking funding.

Raton receives national humanities funding to restore historic downtown theatre

The City of Raton has received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities which is slated to be used to make improvements to the historic Shuler Theatre in downtown Raton. The $150,000 in funding awarded in late-April will be used to replace “obsolete” water, sewer and electrical systems with a $150,000 match stemming from private foun- dations.
