Trinidad passes emergency ord. after contractor bungles rate increases

Trinidad City Council passed an emergency ordinance last week, in response to a contractor reportedly bungling a utility rate increase study, after the city’s billing department noticed customers were being overcharged. The emergency ordinance, passed Tuesday, April 18, is the first step to readjust rates for water and sewer utilities since rate increases started April 1 after the passage of two city ordinances.

Colorado has first case of deadly, devastating bat disease

The first Colorado bat infected with white-nose syndrome was found near La Junta, state wildlife officials announced, raising fears of a disastrous spread of the fungus- caused disease wreaking havoc in an important species across dozens of states. Colorado officials have found the widespread bat-killing fungus, Pseudogymnoascus destructans, known as Pd, in the state before, but they had never confirmed a bat infected with the disease the fungus causes.

Increased noise due to PCMS aviation training planned for May

Las Animas County residents can expect increased noise and dust May 7 through May 17 due to aviation training at Pinion Canyon Maneuver Site east of Trinidad.
