Bowman family brings cross to Las Animas County during Easter Day service

The cross stands close to 26 feet tall and is about 1,800 pounds. It took five and a half pounds of concrete to hold up this holy grail in northern Las Animas County. It was put up just over a week before the Easter holiday and the Bowman family is very proud to have this gift of hope on their property on what is being called “The Hill of Healing.”

Crime report for April 13 — April 19: Incidents include fights, accidents, assault, animal cruelty, fraud

The Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 227 incidents between Thursday, April 13, and Wednesday, April 19, including accidents, animal cruelty, harassment and suspicious incidents. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office saw some 107 calls for service during the same time, including traffic stops, accidents, assault, fraud and careless driving.

Foundation supports seniors at Segundo senior center

The Segundo Kennedy Senior Center saw financial support from a local foundation this month which is expected to help bolster its services it offers twice a week. The Tercio Foundation, a local affiliate of The Moore Charitable Foundation, donated $2,000 to the Segundo-based center, which is expected to help support the nonprofit’s mission of providing meals, socialization opportunities and support services for Las Animas County senior citizens.
