Trinidad Safeway part of ‘future investment,’ as other stores set to close in La Junta, Lamar, more  

As 10 Safeway locations across the state are set to hit the chopping block and close by Nov. 7, Heather Halpape, director of communications for Albertsons Companies, Inc. (Safeway falling under the corporate umbrella), confirmed to The Chronicle-News that the Trinidad location would be part of its “strategic consolidation” and “customer-focused innovation.”

19-year-old arrested downtown for distribution, after police reportedly discover over 8 grams of fentanyl in black plastic container, more  

Joshua Drahan, 19, who had two active warrants, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 4, at the 100 block of West Cedar St., in Trinidad, after authorities contacted the young man and discovered over 8 grams of fentanyl and 0.4 grams of meth hidden in a black plastic container.

Trinidad mother arrested after video surfaces of her allegedly ‘terrorizing’ kids, wrapping tape around their face, neck, more  

On Sept. 7, Sierra Taylor Braunns, 24, was arrested following a response from a Trinidad Police officer who was dispatched to a possible child abuse incident, which claimed a person saw a video of Braunns wrapping tape around her kids’ necks and head.

LAC Coroner controversy continues as federal judge allows civil action to proceed regarding claims of improper burial of woman’s father 

In a U.S District Court document from Sept. 9, Magistrate Judge Maritza Dominguez Braswell approved a motion, partially, for a civil action against Las Animas County Coroner, Dominic Verquer, to proceed, following claims he had improperly handled the remains of plaintiff Sheri Huff’s father, Fredrick Huff.

Arballo-Contreras given opportunity to make bond, had no criminal history, prosecution warns of risk with immigration preventing his return to court 

The 31-year-old from Chihuahua, Mexico, Adrian Arballo-Conteras, found himself at the Las Animas County Courthouse on Wednesday for a court hearing, which saw the judge give him an opportunity to make bond, despite the prosecution arguing the “flight-risk” and potential immigration detention, which could cause him to miss future hearings.
