Pandemic funds brought grief care to more Colo. students

A groundbreaking bereavement service is expanding efforts to reach kids where they are: in schools, churches and other community sites. Emily Napier, community-based care team manager for Judi’s House, which has been providing comprehensive grief care for more than two decades, noted one in 14 Colorado youths will experience the death of a mom, dad, sister or brother by age 18.

Gun purchase waiting period bill clears House hurdle after hours-long debate

A bill that would institute a three-day waiting period for firearm purchases in Colorado was passed in the House of Representatives after an hours-long debate that went into early Friday morning. House Bill 23-1219 would only allow firearm purchases in the state “three days after a licensed gun dealer has initiated a background check of the purchaser.” The bill still faces at least one more vote before further advancing.

Trinidad council authorizes purchase of $323K electric dept. truck

The Trinidad Power & Light Department will see a slight upgrade to its fleet of vehicles after Trinidad City Council authorized the purchase of a new truck. Trinidad City Council authorized the $323,303 purchase for a new Terex Commander 4047 Digger Derrick on a 2023 Freightliner Chassis after holding a public hearing concerning the requested expenditure Tuesday, March 7.

Trinidad Tourism board applicants say appointment process filled with ‘nepotism’

Some applicants who recently applied to serve on the Trinidad Tourism Board have raised concern with the most recent application process, claiming that “nepotism” could have been involved. The Tourism Board had seven applicants apply to fill two vacancies, including local business owners involved in tourism, a local executive director and a former Tourism Board member seeking reappointment.

Prelim Rad Dirt route shared via county commission, final routes remain undetermined

A “preliminary” route for the 2023 Rad Dirt Fest has been shared with the public via elected officials involved in the ongoing discussions of the newly annual gravel biking race. Las Animas County Commissioner Felix Lopez said during a recent county board meeting that at least one of the routes (it appears to be the Stubborn Delores based on its distance) will run from Main Street in Trinidad, up SH-Five 12, across into Colorado Canyon, down into Bon Carbo, through Trinidad Lake State Park and back into downtown Trinidad.
