The Trinidad & Las Animas County Chamber of Commerce could use some help, financial aid to be specific. The business chamber, in line with businesses nationwide, said that the COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on the nonprofit, including lost memberships, reduced events and in turn, reduced revenue.

A handful of parents in Trinidad and Weston have something to be proud of, along with the two communities in general, with the announcement that five students from the small communities were named to the Dean’s List of the University of Colorado Boulder’s College of Arts and Science.

The first bills of the legislative session are a way for Colorado lawmakers to signal their priorities. On education, that means addressing shortages of teachers and mental health professionals, helping adult students who didn’t get what they needed from the school system the first time around, and providing incentives for incarcerated people to learn while in prison.

Last year, a study came out showing that marijuana legalization in Colorado likely increased cannabis use among adults in the state. Because of the novel methods the researchers used to examine the question, the study was perhaps the best answer to date on one of legalization’s biggest impacts.

A bipartisan bill introduced in the Colorado Senate would make all automobile thefts felonies and eliminate penalties based on the value of a stolen vehicle. Senate Bill 23-097, sponsored by Sen.
