Colorado retirement plan launches for those without one, including self-employed, gig, farm workers

A new program for Colorado workers who don’t have access to a 401(k) or other retirement plan at their job has officially launched after years in the making. The Colorado SecureSavings program was designed to help nearly 1 million workers with no retirement plan to start one at no cost to the employer.

PUC grants mine additional time to complete installation of railway, NECC says it’s a ‘key project’ moving forward

New Elk Coal Company, currently in the process of reinstalling an old railway connecting New Elk Coal Mine to the Jansen Railyard, said that it is now “more likely” the project will be complete by the end of 2024, rather than the expected date of December 2022.

Board of Education Appreciation Month

Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico recognized the Trinidad School District No. 1 Board of Education for their commitment to providing education to Trinidad students, noting that the current era for school boards can be a challenging time. He said that excellence in the classrooms begins with excellence in the board room. Mayor Rico read a proclamation during the school board’s January meeting, proclaiming January 2023 to be “Board of Education Appreciation Month,” and “urged all citizens” to join the city council and City of Trinidad in “recognizing the dedication and hard work of local school board members in preparing today’s students...”

Poll shows openness to increase taxes months after Colorado voters cut income tax

A few months after Coloradans overwhelmingly passed another income tax cut, a progressive public policy center released a poll showing the public wants more funding and a fairer tax code. After passing Proposition 116 in 2020 to lower the income tax from 4.63% to 4.55%, more than 65% of Colorado voters passed Proposition 121 last November to lower the rate to 4.40%.
