Crime report for Dec. 15 — Dec. 28: Incidents include attempted murder, menacing, DUI, vehicle break-ins

Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 387 incidents between Thursday, Dec. 15, and Wednesday, Dec. 28, including attempted murder, hit and run, aggravated assault, DUI, menacing and criminal mischief. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office saw some 223 calls during the same period, including auto theft, alarms and traffic stops.

Colorado seeks consumer input to gain share of $42.5B in broadband infrastructure funding

Colorado is joining dozens of other states in helping identify areas without internet or with poor service to gain federal funding for broadband infrastructure. The Federal Communications Commission published an online map in November and informed states that the federal government would use the map to determine the amount of funding given to states from the $550 billion Infrastructure, Investment and Jobs Act signed into law by President Joe Biden earlier this year.

Harris named Boettcher semifinalist

Primero High School senior Hailey Harris has been named as a semifinalist for the 2023 Boettcher Foundation Scholarship. Since 1952, the Boettcher Foundation has awarded more than $100 million in undergraduate scholarships to some of Colorado’s most dynamic young minds, doers and difference makers.

A Nov. 19 shooting that killed five people and wounded 19 at a Colorado Springs nightclub has officials considering changes to strengthen Colorado’s red flag law, particularly in self-declared “Second Amendment sanctuaries,” where emergency petitions to remove a person’s guns are filed less frequently and usually denied.
