County, city look to partner at airport, discussions ‘very’ preliminary

Las Animas County and the City of Trinidad have started preliminary discussions that could lead to a partnership between the county and city concerning Perry Stokes Airport, but nothing has been finalized as of yet. Officials from both groups have said that the details of what the collaboration would entail, and who would be involved, are still up in the air — but both have said they have interest in working together on the airport.

Arctic winds expected ahead of holiday weekend, state police remind drivers of cold weather driving

Extreme temperatures are expected through Friday morning, creating potentially dangerous driving conditions for drivers, the National Weather Service and Colorado State Patrol warned. Today is projected to bring a high of 8 degrees in Trinidad, 5 degrees in Thatcher and 1 degree in Kim, according to a NWS forecast, but wind chill values will make it feel like -24 degrees, -30 degrees and -40 degrees, respectively.

Feds reopen at-home test kit orders as health officials anticipate holiday COVID rise

Free at-home antigen tests are available from the federal government again as health officials report an increase in COVID, flu and other respiratory virus following the Thanksgiving holiday. The Biden administration announced Thursday that for a limited time this winter COVIDTest.gov will be open and households can order a total of four at-home test kits.

Las Animas County has two new sheriff deputies on patrol, which is expected to alleviate staffing struggles at the county sheriff’s office. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office hired Jordan Fowler and Kevin Sanchez as patrol deputies and announced both had completed their police training at FlatRock Regional Training Center in Adams County Dec.
