Trinidad’s firemen are continuing a longstanding holiday tradition and said the tradition is expanding this year to greater-Las Animas County. The Trinidad Fireman’s Toy Drive, which has provided Trinidad’s youth with Christmas gifts since 1976, will run again this year; but this year it will also include youth from Las Animas County.
A man who led law enforcement on a vehicle pursuit through two southeastern Colorado counties has been convicted to six years in the Colorado Department of Corrections. Derrek Wayne Sandoval (age 28), whose address is listed as Trinidad, received six years in the CDOC after pleading guilty to felony vehicular eluding.

Trinidad Police Department announced its annual Shop with a Cop event will occur in late-December and is asking the community for donations to help bring Christmas cheer to local children. The program pairs police officers with children for a holiday shopping experience.
A group in charge of managing a scenic byway that passes through Las Animas County is seeking public input on a byway “corridor management plan” and have scheduled three public meetings in the region to collect updated information.
With the rush of the holidays, and gift giving primarily focused on children, often senior citizens are forgotten. For shut-ins, or seniors with little or no family nearby, the holidays can be an especially lonely time of year.

LAKE CITY — As Colorado Parks and Wildlife celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2022, it may be long remembered as the year of the brook trout. Only five months after CPW certified a new state record brook trout for the first time in 75 years, the record was again reestablished by Matt Smiley of Lake City.
