CMAS results: Most area school districts lag behind state average

Statewide, third graders did almost as well on the Colorado Measures of Academic Success, or CMAS, tests this past spring as third graders did before the pandemic. This could be an encouraging sign after three disrupted school years, but older students in most grades and subjects did worse, even as test scores rebounded from very low levels in 2021.

Downtown businesses raise issue with recent closure of parking lot behind Champions Center

Businesses in Trinidad’s Bell Block and the immediate surrounding area have raised issue with the recent closure of a parking lot behind the Champions Center, citing customer confusion and a general lack of parking within the city. The 25-space parking lot — located behind Main Street Live, Bella Luna Pizzeria, the Columbian Building and the Champions Center — recently had signs added that informs drivers the parking lot is for Champions Center use only.

Colorado to receive over $1M in Medicaid fraud settlement with optical lens company

Colorado Attorney General Attorney General Phil Weiser has announced that Colorado will receive more than $1 million after an optical lens company paid providers kickbacks to refer patients to the company, resulting in the submission of false claims to the Colorado Medicaid program. In the settlement, Essilor, a company that manufactures, markets and distributes optical lenses and equipment used to produce optical lenses, agreed to pay 35 states a total of $22 million plus interest.

State releases COVID-19 school guidance, resumes free school testing programs
