
Laborer retention remains issue at local mine, company trains more locals in long-term bid
Benjamin Mandile Reporter The Chronicle-News Allegiance Coal Ltd., the parent company of New Elk Coal Company, said in a quarterly release that hiring and retaining general laborers at the mine west of Trinidad remains an ongoing issue. The mine has struggled within the last year to retain skilled workers, primarily importing them from the eastern coal country, due to a lack of adequate accommodations and COVID- 19 protocols.
