The Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 351 incidents between Thursday, July 28, and Wednesday, August 3, including shots fired calls, harassment, traffic stops and welfare checks. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office call logs could not be obtained due to office schedules.
Last week our 19-year-old grandson came to visit so he could participate in his best friend’s wedding. Weddings are exciting: handsome groomsmen lined up in their tuxedos, the groom nervously looking for his bride, bridesmaids in matching dresses, the flower girl and ring bearer announcing the bride’s entrance, and then, the bride, adorned for her husband. All of this followed by a reception with good food, joyful singing, and dancing.

The City of Trinidad has proposed two ballot measures for the 2022 General Election, but before they make it to the ballot, the city must first receive resident approval. Trinidad City Council voted 7-0 Tuesday to set two public hearings for the passage of two ordinances allowing the city to add the measures to the ballot.

Budding readers within Las Animas County are invited to participate in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which opened in Las Animas County this year. The library, not actually a physical building, is a program run since 1995 that sends free books once a month to children until their 5th birthday.
A district court judge issued a bench warrant for a man suspected of being an accessory to murder, after he failed to appear for a plea hearing Tuesday. Third Judicial District Court Judge John Clay McKisson III issued a $50,000 bench warrant for Roy Allen Elliot-Casaus III Tuesday, after he failed to appear in court for a plea hearing.

The Southern Colorado Livestock Association announced the winners of the Kimmi Lewis Scholarship and five area seniors earned a $500 award. Scholarship winners include: Nevaeh Martinez, Hoehne Nevaeh Martinez recently graduated as Salutatorian at Hoehne High School.
