The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has upgraded COVID-19 community transmission levels for Las Animas and Huerfano Counties after the bi-county region experienced a rise in cases. The Las Animas-Huerfano Counties District Health Department said in a release June 30 that Huerfano County has moved to “high” COVID-19 community transmission and Las Animas County has moved into “medium” transmission.
Trinidad City Council said during a June 27 work session that it wants more information about the local marijuana market’s condition and have more discussion, before it makes a formal decision on whether or not to adjust city marijuana fees paid by the local industry.
Some small business owners are sounding off against a new fee that’s set to take effect on retail items that customers purchase and have delivered. The new retail delivery fee was created under Senate Bill 21-260, which established a host of new fees to fund the state’s transportation system.
Mt. Carmel and the Sister Blandina Gardens in Trinidad secured $5,000 of funding from the El Pomar Foundation.
DEAR ABBY: Our 26-year-old, college-educated grandson, “Ethan,” crashed his company car and was arrested for DWI and possession of more than a gram of cocaine. His mother hired a lawyer, posted bond and is taking full charge of the situation. Ethan lost his responsible job, and his girlfriend kicked him out. He has a sizable inheritance, enough to pay the lawyer and fine. Since he has never been in trouble before, we are hoping he won’t go to jail.

Trinidad has received funding from the state transportation department to construct a multi-use trail alongside Santa Fe Trail to provide increased access for pedestrian traffic south of town. The Colorado Department of Transportation awarded the City of Trinidad a $1.8 million Revitalizing Main Street Grant, to construct the 1.15-mile trail running from Exit 11 on the south end to Saddle Road on the north end.
The second defendant in the 2021 Trinidad Bombing has been sentenced to probation, after striking a plea deal earlier this year. Leah Armijo, 29, received a four-year deferred sentence after pleading guilty to assault with a deadly weapon (a class three felony).
