Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 182 incidents between May 5 and May 11, including shots fired, assault and fights. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office responded to or initiated some 95 incidents in the same time period including fraud, burglaries and a controlled burn.

Trinidad City Council discussed meeting decorum during a work session Monday, with some councilmembers asking the public to be more respectful towards council and the flow of city council meetings. The work session comes after multiple weeks of public comments during which the public directed criticism towards councilmembers and city staff.
The Colorado Senate on Tuesday gave its final approval for a bill that seeks to reduce most business filing fees to $1. House Bill 22-1101 directs the state treasurer to transfer more than $16.7 million from the general fund to the secretary of state’s office to pay for the fee reduction.

Trinidad’s residential and commercial natural gas rates could increase after the results of a natural gas rate study was shared with city management and city council. The city has pointed to increased commodity costs as the reason for the proposed increase, according to council communication.
