Open records request shows Trinidad not under state, federal city finance audit

A rumor circulating that the City of Trinidad is under a state or federal audit shows to be false, according to reporting and a Colorado Open Records Act request filed by The Chronicle-News. According to the Colorado Office of the State Auditor, the City of Trinidad and a CORA response, the city is not under a state or federal audit.

Local Carnegie Library supports freedom of information initiative started at NY Public Library in response to efforts to ban books

The New York Public Library is offering free access nationwide to a selection of banned books in response to the ongoing efforts to limit access to certain titles. The NYPL partnered with three publishers to give access to a selection of books, including Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, King and the Dragonflies by Kacen Callender, The Catcher in the Rye by J.D.

Trinidad’s historic Fort Wootton receives city landmark status, group seeking to rehab complex

Fort Wootton, which currently houses the Las Animas County Veteran’s Council, became a city landmark this week after receiving support from Trinidad City Council. A goal of receiving a landmark designation was to ensure the 33,000 square-foot community meeting place could remain in the hands of the community and always be there to serve the community.

God knows you — and calls you by name

When my phone rings and someone asks for “William,” I know they don’t know me. William is my birth name. It appears on my passport and drivers license. Usually those who ask for “William” turn out to be telemarketers. But when the caller asks for “Billy,” I know they are from my past. I was known as Billy in my childhood, youth and early adult years. My wife still calls me Billy. If they ask for “Bill,” they probably met me during my midlife and later career when I opted for the shorter version.
