Low-flying helicopters to survey lesser prairie chicken populations in SE Colorado

LAMAR — Beginning in mid-April, helicopter crews will move across southeastern Colorado to conduct aerial surveys for lesser prairie-chicken. The surveys are conducted annually by the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) to document population trends and how the bird is responding to management strategies.

Colorado State Patrol seeing increase of people on roadways not designed for pedestrian use

Unlike neighborhood streets or roads with designated bike lanes or large shoulders, there are many highways and rural roadways that are not designed for pedestrian use. When pedestrians are present on access-controlled roads, such as highways, they are placing themselves and motorists at great risk and can be ticketed — or worse — injured or killed.

Local artists return with new mural idea — creating artwork display to showcase area’s recreational assets

Trinidad could see another mural added to its public art collection if a mural proposed by a group of students receives approval under the city’s mural ordinance. The Trinidad Youth Mural Program, the same group that created a mural at the corner of Elm Street and Linden Avenue last August, is back at it again, now looking to create a mural on the Cedar Street Bridge retaining wall showcasing the recreational activities of the city.

Both directions of I-25 at Exit 11 will be fully closed today & Friday — CDOT crew to pour concrete bridge deck

Starting at 3 a.m. and lasting until approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 and Friday, April 1, the Colorado Department of Transportation will implement full closures of both directions of Interstate 25 at Exit 11, south of Trinidad. The closures are necessary while crews perform a concrete deck pour on the new bridge structure.
