A homeless man who stabbed a New Mexico man 13 times during an altercation in a department store parking lot in Trinidad last year has been sentenced to eight years in the Colorado Department of Corrections to be followed by parole.
Officials at the Comanche National Grassland announced this month that they plan to conduct prescribed burns in Southeast Colorado to run through mid-April as conditions permit. The burns started earlier this month and include planned burns in Las Animas, Crowley, Baca and Otero counties to include 4,200 acres.

PUEBLO — Operating hours for the boat ramps at Lake Pueblo State Park, the busiest park in Colorado, will adjust April 1 to the summer schedule of 5 a.m. to midnight.
Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 216 calls between Thursday, March 17 and Wednesday, including hit and runs, auto theft and malicious mischief. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office responded to or initiated 150 incidents in the same time period, including DUIs, domestic calls, subject and traffic stops and a weed fire.
It was a full house at the Mutiny Information Café in downtown Trinidad Saturday, Mar. 12, as the Trinidad Trails Alliance (TTA) hosted their monthly event — indoors this month due to snow. Over 25 people gathered to hear updates from the TTA, a local volunteer organization, whose mission it is to help build and maintain public trails in and around Trinidad.
Candidates in the 2022 Trinidad Ambulance District Board of Directors special election have raised concern with an email sent to candidates this month, suggesting the candidates speak amongst themselves to decide who would drop out of the race in an effort to save the district money by not holding an election.
Tom Murphy announced a candidate forum will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 27 for the upcoming Trinidad Ambulance District Board of Directors election and that it will be livestreamed on cable channel 71 and Trinidad Times TV 71 on YouTube.
Trinidad High School has seen what started out as post-athletic practice conversations turn into “a dream come true,” almost overnight, the district said. Donnelly Gym’s weight room saw a “major” upgrade through what the district has called “generous” donations from a THS alumna.
