Mayor Phil Rico to deliver State of the City address this week — Thurs., Feb. 17

Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico plans to give the annual State of the City Address Thursday, February 17 at Trinidad State College. Topics of the event are expected to include reflections on recent successes that have laid the groundwork for the City’s upcoming priorities, goals of the city council in 2022 and identifying the city’s biggest challenges and its greatest assets.

City, County crime, emergency report for Jan. 26 — Feb. 9

Trinidad Police Department responded to or initiated some 534 calls between January 26 and February 9 including a residential fire, sexual assault and a number of accidents. It responded to or initiated some 256 calls between January 26 and February 2 and some 278 calls between February 3 and February 9. The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office responded to or initiated some 177 calls during the same time period including warrants, traffic stops and accidents. It responded to or initiated some 105 calls between January 27 and February 2 and some 72 calls between February 3 and February 9.

Local charities top $42.9M in 2021 revenue

A report released by the Colorado Secretary of State shows among 21 Las Animas County-based nonprofits some $42.9 million in revenue was reported in 2021 — some 2.5% less than in 2020. The 2021 report on charitable solicitations in Colorado compiles registration documents filed by charities and paid solicitors in Colorado in an effort to “protect the public’s interest in making informed choices when donating to charity.” Colorado’s Charitable Solicitation Act requires charities and paid solicitors that ask for contributions in the state to file registration with the state and for the state to compile an annual report of the data.
