Trinidad man sentenced to 13 years, in addition with separate LAC six-year sentence, for high-speed chase in Castle Rock, crashing into patrol cars 

The 23rd Judicial District announced Tuesday, July 29, that Roy Allen Elliott Casaus, 33, out of Trinidad, was sentenced to 13 years in prison after a high-speed chase in Castle Rock, while driving a stolen vehicle, led him to crash into several patrol cars.

Contractor provides update on $5.5 million Fisher’s Peak Elementary renovation, discusses difficulty of navigating economic swings for project  

On the evening of July 30, the development manager for Willdan Engineering took to the Trinidad Middle School board room to provide an update on the over $5.5 million Fisher’s Peak Elementary School renovations during Trinidad School District No. 1’s regular board meeting.

Woman accused of vehicular homicide, following fatal crash on I-25 in Trinidad, receives new hearing 

Inka Jumisko, 29, was back at Las Animas County Courthouse Monday, July 28, for a preliminary hearing, after she was accused of vehicular homicide while under the influence (a class three felony), following a fatal RV crash on May 13 around midnight on I-25 in Trinidad.

Amid rural healthcare access uncertainties, Vision Now addresses shortage of eye doctors, brings ‘cutting-edge’ optometry services to Trinidad, La Junta

Since the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of Medicaid reimbursement in low-income areas, rural healthcare services have faced reductions in services, with some even facing closures. For instance, Rocky Mountain Eye Center’s Trinidad location shut its doors in July 2024, with other clinics fighting to avoid a similar fate.

Trinidad Police nab convicted Denver burglar for alleged firearm theft from Aurora Police Department, vehicle thefts out of Pueblo, more  

On the early morning of Friday, July 25, at around 1:30 a.m., officers with the Trinidad Police Department arrested Joshua Stephen Batts, 38, out of Denver, who allegedly had possession of a firearm reported stolen from the Aurora Police Department, a truck reported stolen out of Pueblo, which was pulling a trailer that was reported stolen out of Trinidad.

TDS1 continues funding efforts for $1.3M Miner field renovations, takes to City Hall for grant request following county officials pointing them in city’s direction 

Trinidad School District No. 1’s technology specialist Ryan Dornan took to City Hall Monday, July 21, for a special meeting to ask the City of Trinidad to submit, on the district’s behalf, for a Great Outdoors Colorado, GOCO, grant to fund its Miner track field renovations after Las Animas County officials informed the district they should approach the city first.
