‘Catastrophic’ wildfire risk at Trinidad mountain development prompts veteran-led volunteer group to deploy to area for fire mitigation operation

Santa Fe Trail Ranch, a forested community of approximately 16,400 acres and around 500 residents, could be the site for a potential wildfire disaster, according to officials, which prompted Team Rubicon, an all-volunteer veteran-led organization, to conduct a fire mitigation operation back on the weekend of May 2 through May 4.

Alleged Cimino Park fentanyl dealer reportedly swallows nearly 100 fentanyl pills while in custody, flees police in separate pursuit

Marino Scott, 50, is currently booked at the Las Animas County Detention Center, facing multiple felony charges, after he was reportedly apprehended following a previous arrest when he allegedly swallowed a package containing approximately 100 fentanyl pills while in custody back in February before being released.

Trinidad Police Department reports significant drug seizures, around 360 pounds, including 160 pounds of fentanyl, in 2024 

Interim Chief Mike Tihonovich of the Trinidad Police Department provided the 2024 year-end report review and its 2025 to-date recap for the department during a city council work session on Monday, Apr. 21, revealing its success in drug seizures, around 360 pounds, including 160 pounds of fentanyl.
