Editor, In the next couple of week’s the citizens of Trinidad will be asked to vote for 2A which is an additional 3% tourism tax.We have been trying to establish Trinidad as a destination for recreation. If the City of Trinidad is to expand recreational opportunities and promote local events it is imperative to get additional funding. We currently receive 3% but that is not enough for what is needed to promote local events. As a former Trinidad mayor, I have seen the need for additional funding and what better way to get funding than through an additional 3% lodging tax on lodging paid for by tourists. Many other communities have lodging taxes that are equal to what we will receive, if approved, some are higher.I urge the Citizens of Trinidad to approve measure 2A that will be on the upcoming ballot.THIS IS NOT A TAX ON LOCAL CITIZENS.
