Throngs of residents filled downtown Trinidad Monday to begin Labor Day festivities by attending the annual parade. Cheerleaders, bands, veterans and a number of local businesses and community organizations snaked their way through crowd and onto Main Street. This year the parade was celebrating its’ 115th year.
Reader and local photographer Patrick Arguello found this bee hard at work one day in downtown Trinidad. Southern Colorado is home to a diverse range of bee species, including common ones like bumble bees, leafcutter bees and sweat bees, as well as managed honeybees. These bees play a vital role in the ecosystem by pollinating both native plants and agricultural crops.

The City of Trinidad put on the annual Santa Fe Trail Days Festival this year and filled downtown Trinidad near City Hall with live music, dancers, obstacle courses, a “shootout,” games, vendors and much more.
