The Primero Bulldogs, with a 14-8 record, faced three district opponents this past week. The Bulldogs won the first game against the Manzanola Bobcats 43-36, lost the second game against the Springfield Longhorns 35-33 and won the final game against the La Veta Redhawks 41-38. Due to their win against the Bobcats and Redhawks, the Bulldogs advanced to regionals.

It’s been a long road back to the mat for the Trinidad High School wrestling team. For the past five years, coach Adam Ortivez has been at the helm, guiding THS’s wrestlers on their quest to achieve greatness.

High school basketball teams from throughout the area entered into postseason play last week as district playoffs began. For some teams, it was the end of the road; for others, it was just the first chapter in a quest towards regional and state playoff bids.

The Primero Bulldogs won by a score of 48 to 32 on the road in a non-league game against the Moffat Cowboys on Thursday, February 17. Senior Michael Damelio led the way in point-scoring, earning a total of 23 by the end of the game.

Primero High School sent five students to Otero Junior College on February. 4 to compete in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) district competition. All five students placed in their respective categories, qualifying to advance to the state FBLA competition in Aurora on April 18-20.

The curtain fell on regular season basketball for local high schools last week, with the hopes of advancing to postseason glory hanging in the balance. ■ Hoehne The 5-13 Hoehne Farmers entered last week’s basketball action ranked sixth in the 2A Santa Fe League, falling one spot from the week prior.

As the regular season of high school basketball draws towards a close, teams across the area faced key opponents last week in games that would determine league standings and, ul-timately, who will advance to the top rounds of the playoffs in just a few weeks.

DENVER — Hunters hoping to draw a big-game license in Colorado in 2022 are urged to review the changes in license requirements and fees in the 2022 Colorado Big Game brochure prior to the March 1 opening of the primary draw application period (March 1 - April 5 at 8 p.m. MT). Hunters are encouraged to submit their applications early to avoid complications or delays.

The Primero boys basketball team competed in two games over the weekend, beating each team. The first game was against the La Veta Redhawks, which was a conference matchup, and the second was against the South Baca Patriots. The games were won with scores of 57 to 51 and 61 to 27 respectively.
