Sports, recreation and tourism employs approximately 16% of Coloradans and contributes $60 billion or 13.7% of the state’s economic activity, according to new research. “The Economic Impact of Colorado’s Sports, Recreation and Tourism Sector,” published by the Common Sense Institute, analyzed the impact of the sector on the state’s overall economy.
Behind a solid seven inning pitching performance from Trinidad junior Joey Just, the Trinidad High School Miner baseball team (7-9)(4-2),came from behind to take a double header against Class 2AA’s No. 9 ranked team — Ignacio (7-6)(3-1) by a score of 7-6. But fielding errors and other miscues cost THS in Game Two as they lost 14-4 after making the five-plus hour trip the Four Corner region.
The Bulldogs took five athletes to La Junta’s Tiger Relays track meet on April 21. Leading Primero’s team was senior Hailey Harris who placed 10th in the girls shot put with a distance of 28-10.50.
On April 7, Primero Middle School traveled to La Junta to compete in a track meet and beat many of the school’s middle school track records. Primero’s top finisher was KaceyMay Costa, who ran in the 800-meter run and placed fifth with a time of 3:04.15.
On April 15, the Primero track team traveled to Del Norte for the Del Norte Tiger Invitational track meet. In this track meet, senior Hailey Harris broke two records set by Amy Zink in 2013.
Primero took eight athletes to compete in the Centauri Invitational meet in the Town of La Jara on April 11. At this meet, there were plenty of personal records broken along with a broken school record and a first-place finish.
