On April 7, Primero Middle School traveled to La Junta to compete in a track meet and beat many of the school’s middle school track records. Primero’s top finisher was KaceyMay Costa, who ran in the 800-meter run and placed fifth with a time of 3:04.15.
Primero High saw its five track athletes set new personal bests at an early-April meet in Otero County during the Ray Headley Invitational Track meet. The meet, held in Swink Friday, April 7, saw appearances from John Mall High School, Pueblo County, Sanford, Hanover, Holly, Aguilar, Rocky Ford, Las Animas, South Baca and Fowler, among other schools.
Big bats and aggressive base running helped the young Trinidad Miners on the diamond last weekend as they beat Custer County (3-4) (2-2) at Central Park in Trinidad Friday, April 7, sweeping a Class 2AA Southern Peaks League double header by scores of 16-3 and 24-14. But on Saturday, April 8, Trinidad High School lost to No. 9 ranked Del Norte (6-0)(6-0) on the road 9-5 and 15-12.
Mike Maio, formerly of Trinidad, son of John and Edna Maio, will be inducted into the CIF Los Angeles City Section Sports Hall of Fame for baseball in Granada Hills, California on April 16. Maio graduated from Holy Trinity in 1957.
In exchange for offering financial aid to more in-state students, Colorado universities soon could be allowed to admit more students from out of state who pay almost twice as much in tuition. Universities such as the University of Colorado Boulder have been allowed to admit two out-of-state students for every student they admit who participates in the Colorado Scholars Program.
The Trinidad Miners baseball team has hit the golden diamond fields of Colorado for the 2023 spring sports season. Trinidad has started the young season at 2-3.
Primero High School Track & Field started off their season last weekend with senior Hailey Harris placing ninth in shot-put, and multiple runners improving their personal bests. The Bulldog track team attended its first meet of the season in Pueblo Saturday, March 18, at the Larry Pickering Invitational — taking four athletes up to the Steel City for an early-spring competition.
They call it March Madness. For the next three weeks, the best college basketball teams in the nation will compete against one another.
Members of Primero High School’s boys and girls basketball and wrestling teams were recently awarded All-Conference honors for their performances on the court and mat this spring. Freshman Isabela Maldonado and junior Skyler McCorkle were named All-Conference for basketball.
