CPW seeks public comment on Southeast Region pronghorn herd management plans

Public input is being sought by Colorado Parks and Wildlife about how it intends to manage 11 pronghorn herds across its Southeast Region over the next 10 years. CPW staff has spent months drafting proposed management plans for the pronghorn herds that extend from Leadville down the Arkansas River valley to Kansas and New Mexico, as well as from the Pikes Peak region east to Kansas and as far north as Interstate 70 and Burlington on the far eastern plains.

Foul trouble, tired players, leads to Trinidad loss against Sargent Farmers

The Trinidad Miners Boys Basketball team, which recently saw coaching staff turnover, saw an early lead in their Jan. 19 face-off against the 5-5 Sargent Farmers. The boys in blue hustled, played defense, boxed out, passed the leather and found the open men.

The Primero boys welcomed the Springfield Longhorns to their gym for a league game on Jan. 13, losing by a score of 53-45. The Bulldogs faced the John Mall Panthers at home for a non-league game on Jan. 14, losing 55-54.

Last weekend, the Trinidad Lady Miners (5-4) (0-0) spilt a pair of games. Saturday, Trinidad High School played solid defense and shot the ball well on the offensive side of the ball, and they held off a late three-point shooting rally by the Lady Rams of Centennial (San Luis) (3-6, 0-0), winning the contest 33-29.

The 6-3 Hoehne Farmer boys’ basketball squad will try to bounce back to the net and plow themselves out of a loss, after a very tough loss to the Fowler Grizzlies 44-41 on the road Jan. 13, and are scheduled for three road games this week, all league play.

In a game that started out as a defensive battle, the 5-5 Trinidad Lady Miners got off to a slow start on the offensive side of the ball, and just could not get the one or two runs they needed in a 39-26 loss to the 6-3 Sargent Lady Farmers Thursday, Jan. 19, in Trinidad’s first Southern Peaks League game of the 20222023 season.

Primero High School’s Lady Bulldogs post big win

On Jan. 13, the Lady Bulldogs played a league game against the Springfield Longhorns at home, losing 45-13. On Jan. 14 the Bulldogs welcomed the John Mall Panthers home for a non-league game winning 49-23.

The Hoehne Farmer boys’ basketball team, despite a strong second-half defensive effort that put them in position a number of times to take the lead, fell short against the Fowler Grizzlies 44-4 last weekend at home.

The Hoehne High School Girls’ Basketball team got off to a slow start last weekend at home, against long-time Santa Fe League rival Fowler, in front of a large and loud crowd at Hoehne Gym, but a strong second half by the Lady Farmers — who played some tough physical defense — helped HHS come from behind for the 38-35 win.

Primero High School’s girls’ basketball team welcomed the Kim/Branson Mustangs on Friday, Jan. 6, but lost by a score of 46-13 heading into the second half of their season on the court.
