Deer hunters can keep an eye on their mailbox for chronic wasting disease mandatory testing letter

DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife has selected specific deer hunts for mandatory chronic wasting disease testing in 2022 to inform how and where to fight the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease. Beginning in early October, CPW will be sending letters to Colorado rifle season deer hunters who have been selected for mandatory CWD testing.

Keep Colorado Wild Pass refund options announced for resident annual pass

DENVER – At its September meeting, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission approved a refund policy for Colorado residents who purchase a Keep Colorado Wild Pass. Beginning in 2023, Colorado residents will see a $29 Keep Colorado Wild Pass added to their annual vehicle registration through the Division of Motor Vehicles.

This past week in the world of local high school sports, it was a time for some programs to rest and recoup, with bye weeks on the schedule for several football teams. For others, it was a frenzy of game after game after game, with both the Hoehne Lady Farmers and Raton Lady Tigers facing a host of challengers on jam-packed dockets.

Fall sports heat up in dog days of Sept.

As the region sweltered under hot September weather last week, it was a tough one for many local high school sports teams, with Hoehne, Trinidad and Primero all taking some stinging defeats. All was not lost though, as the Raton and Branson/Kim football teams and the ladies of Kim/Branson volleyball all earned some hard-fought victories.
