As the fall high school sports season entered its third week of play, many teams in the region saw newfound success on the gridiron and volleyball court. Could this be a harbinger of still greater victories to come?
Total sports betting wagers in Colorado saw a 17.5% decrease last month, according to data released by the state Thursday. The total handle was $258.4 million in July, down from $313.3 million in June, the Colorado Division of Gaming said.

Football The Primero Bulldogs won by a score of 76 to 26 at home against the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds on Aug.
The calendar may still say that it’s summer (and the weather agrees), the fall sports season is in full swing. Several sports are closing in on an entire month of competitions, including boys golf.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced a new state record Brook Trout has been caught, breaking the longest-standing fish record in the state. The Brook Trout was caught on May 23 by Tim Daniel of Granby in Monarch Lake, in Grand County. CPW Aquatic Biologist Jon Ewert inspected the fish the day it was caught. It weighed 7.84 pounds, measured 231/4-inches in length, and had a girth of 15 3/8-inches. When asked where and what he used to catch the fish, Daniel’s said, “In the water and with a hook.”
This week sees everyone joining the party, as the final fall sports get their seasons underway. Football champions will be looking to get their title defenses off on the right foot, while volleyball really gets rolling. Golf, cross country, softball and soccer all continue to progress through their respective slates.
The new school year is here, bringing with it a fresh fall athletic calendar. Across the region, some programs are looking to repeat their championship feats from 2021, others are looking to unseat them, and some are simply seeking growth.
