Charles Mason

Charles “Chuck” Anthony Mason, of Trinidad, CO, gained his wings and fought his last battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) on April 15, 2022.

On April 13, 1965, Chuck was born to Charles “Howey” and Marlene Mason in Denver, CO. He is survived by his mother Marlene, children; Kristin Mason, Pueblo, CO; Nick (Tiffany) Mason, Trinidad, CO; and Jessica Mason, Eugene, OR; grandsons Karter and Liam; brothers, Lance Mason and Troy Mason; Uncle William (Diane) Mason; mother of his children, Jennifer Sanchez-Mason; and former in-laws Al and Betty Sanchez, Alan Sanchez, Tracy Sanchez, Jacqueline Martinez, John (Roz) Sanchez, Tim (Mary) Sanchez, Terry (Lana) Sanchez, and Dan (Jennifer) Sanchez, all of Pueblo; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Howey Mason; nephews Travis Mason and Justin Sanchez; his grandparents John and Frances Mason and Anthony and Wilma Kaparos.

Chuck graduated from Trinidad High School in 1985, where he played football and baseball; anyone who knew him knew he was a true mighty Miner and bled blue. His favorite teacher was Mr. Sam Haun, who taught him enough about carpentry that Chuck was able to finish his dream home. He attended Trinidad State Junior College and received his Associateʼs Degree in Architectural Design in 1987. Chuck worked for Budweiser, and then the City of Trinidad until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt. Throughout the years he coached youth sports and remembered every young athlete he encountered. Ash is children grew, he dedicated himself to being their biggest fan and followed them throughout the state, encouraging them with pride and love.

Chuck was always known to lend a hand to anyone in need and he did thi s tirelessly until he could no longer physically do so. In 2001, Chuck was diagnosed with MS. Like a warrior, he faced the disease head on. He began running 5K races and was an inspiration to his children and those who loved him. In 2012, Chuck lost the ability to walk and succumbed to a wheelchair. This did not stop him from getting up every morning, smiling, and arming himself with a positive attitude. This attitude gave him the physical strength to continue his passion for cultivating his garden. He was an avid Cowboys and Braves fan, and loved to talk sports with his two youngest children. In his last few years, he was blessed with several amazing care takers throughout the Trinidad community, as well as the companionship of his mom, brothers and friend Jason. His greatest joy and sense of pride were his children Kristin, Nicholas, and Jessica, and his grandsons Karter and Liam.

Chuck will be laid to rest on Monday, April 25th at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the Eulogy prior to the mass. Viewing will be held on Sunday, April 24th from 4:00-6:00 pm and the Rosary at 6:00 pm at Mullare Murphy Funeral home.

Active Pallbearers are Lance Mason and Troy Mason; Danny Sanchez, John Sanchez, Terry Sanchez, and Keith Segura.

Honorary Pallbearers are William Mason; Tim Sanchez, Alan Sanchez; and Jason Saracino.
