Obituary of Elvira F. Santistevan

Elvira F. Santistevan of Jansen, CO departed this world at the age of 84 on July 18th, 2022. She was born to Ramon and Rose Roybal on Oct. 13th, 1938 in Weston, CO and was raised in Starkville, CO. The second of twelve children, she attended area schools and worked several jobs all over the state including the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. She was united in marriage to Porfirio Santistevan Jr. on June 3rd, 1965. The couple resided in Sopris, CO until eminent domain forced families to move. They then resided in Jansen from 1968 until her death.

They raised 4 children during this time. She loved to quilt, sew, raise a garden, and anything that had to do with being a homemaker and a mom. She also loved to travel, especially to the Roybal family reunion every year no matter where it was. She was a member of the Catholic church, attending every Sunday. A very active woman in the community, she donated time to genealogy studies, serving meals, and helping out with the volunteer fire department during bake sales, fundraisers, or whatever needed to be done. Elvira was all about family and friends, and always had time to visit and share time with those she loved.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Rose Roybal, and her siblings Linda Mayhill, Betty Lovato, Emma LaCrue, James Roybal, Della Abeyta, Ruth Smith, and Dolores Roybal.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years Porfirio Santistevan Jr., children Henry (Mashell) Santistevan, Alan Santistevan, Bert (Donna and children) Santistevan, and Sarah (Pat) Bachicha, 4 grandchildren Hayley Villalovas, Tatum Bachicha, Lucas Santistevan, and Katheryn Santistevan, 2 great-grandchildren Kataleia and Ailana Villalovas, siblings Thomasita Bernal, Ray (Joyce) Roybal, Timothy (Charlene) Roybal, Laura ( Tom) Chacon, Richard Abeyta, Theresa Roybal, and Frank LaCrue. In-laws John Santistevan, Nora (Lee) Chavez, Theresa Rael, and family friends Mariah and Danette Cruz, and Betty Lopez numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be sadly missed.

Pallbearers Pat Bachicha, Tatum Bachicha, Tony Villalovas, Ray Roybal Jr., Steven Chacon, Anthony Chavez, John Santistevan Jr., Lucas Santistevan, Katheryn Santistevan, and Hayley Villalovas.

Viewing will be held at Comi Funeral Home in Trinidad, CO on Thursday July 28th from 3pm-7pm with rosary to follow. Funeral service will be held Friday, July 29th at 10am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
