The Hoehne Cheer team is back and improving with every practice, every game and every camp under second year head coach Seanah Sanchez McDonald. A team with only two young ladies last season, has now grown to qualify for the 2024 Colorado State Cheer Championships.
The team competes in the Class 2AA/3AAA Division to be held in Denver at the historic Coliseum on Thursday, Dec. 12.
Sanchez McDonald talked about the team and their state cheer appearance, “Our goal is get the experience of competing at the Colorado State Cheer Competition. We went last year, we did not compete, but I wanted the girls to go up there and see what it is like, the atmosphere, the competition, just to take in what it is all about. We also want to set goals for the future. We are excited and ready!”
The Farmer Cheer Team will be in the 2AA/3AAA Game Day part of the state competition consisting of a band chant, situational cheer, a crowd involvement cheer and the Hoehne Farmer School Fight Song.
The Farmers have one returning member from last season in sophomore Joselyn Santistevan who is excited and ready for State. She said, “Everyone at Hoehne is supporting each other. Our football team went to the playoffs and our girls basketball team and volleyball teams went to state. We are excited to help bring school spirt to Hoehne! It is fun to see everyone support one another. Go Farmers!”
Leila Gonzales, a sophomore on the team, added, “Everyone knows everyone, this makes it feel like big family here in Hohene. I am very excited about the state competition and what doors will open up next.”
Other proud members of the Farmer Cheer Team include seniors Angelina Valentine and Talia Gonzalez, freshman Alexis Malespini and the proud Fighting Farmer mascot.
Back on Dec. 5, the cheer team competed and finished fourth at the second annual Holly Cheerleading Competition, in which teams did traditional, exhibition, game day, and co-ed cheers.
Coach Sanchez McDonald said “We also hosted a UCA Cheer Camp back in August and recently we have attended STUNTZ at Star Gym in Pueblo. I plan on having the team attend more UCA Camps, lessons at STUNTZ, and add more competitions for next season, with work during the summer. We want more cheer team members, to grow the cheer program over the next few years. I have loved becoming the Hoehne Farmer cheer coach! I am very happy with the progression of the program and we are all excited to see what happens next. We are so proud of the team. They have come a long way and improved so much. We are excited and ready for State!”
