Helping spread Christmas cheer, on Dec. 5, fourth-grade teachers at Fishers Peak Elementary offered their students and their families an opportunity to create Christmas wreaths to hang downtown with its annual Make a Christmas Wreath event.

“We want to help students to create memories during the holiday season,” Teacher Teresa Ochoa told The Chronicle-News. “It is important for us to invite their families to participate and get involved in something special for their child.”

According to Ochoa, the faculty had hosted its Make a Christmas Wreath for over ten years, and every year, participation varied, depending on what other activities could be going on in town.

She said, “Every year is different. Some years we have a full house, and others, like this year, are quiet. I believe the day we chose, there were other activities downtown. This week, some students who missed it were sad because they couldn’t attend.”

Teachers offered students and their families all the supplies, which included holiday decorations to enable the kids to be creative and decorate their wreaths however they liked.

Although the staff planned to hang the wreaths downtown, they allowed students the option to take them home immediately. They would also return the wreaths after they’re displayed so the children could still take them home on a later day.
