Gun threats prompt Trinidad School District, Hoehne to close their doors

Closure comes just days after major gun threats close schools in Raton, Cimarron

On Sept.19, The Trinidad Police Department released a statement confirming that the through Safe2Tell a message was forwarded to the Trinidad Communications Center regarding a claim of a possible school shooting, which prompted the district to shut it’s doors.

On Sept. 18, the day before, Hoehne School had received a similar threat, which the LAC Sheriff’s Office was investigating.

These closures come one and two days, respectively, after two school districts in Colfax County, Raton High School and Cimarron High School closed their doors due to gun threats.

The TPD said in its announcement, “It should be noted that this is an unfortunate trend across the country however, law enforcement does not take this lightly and will investigate any threats or rumors of violence in our community. Increased law enforcement presence will be visible around area schools.”
