John J. Barela

With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of John J. Barela, a beloved father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and friend. John, of Littleton, CO, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, of natural causes at the age of 83. He will be forever remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his unwavering dedication to his family, and his ability to make people laugh.

John was born and raised in Trinidad, Colorado, where he developed a strong work ethic and a passion for the trades. Throughout his career, he worked as a tradesman for the City and County of Denver, leaving an indelible mark on the city through his work on Stapleton Airport.

After retiring in the early 2000s, John dedicated himself to his true passion: his family. He cherished the time he spent with his daughter Apryl Karlin and husband Kevin Karlin of Aurora, CO, as well as his five grandchildren Durai Silva and husband Jay Silva, Leandra Joseph and husband Colby Joseph, Sienna Karlin, Brielle Karlin, and Grayson Karlin. He also leaves behind a loving group of eight great-grandchildren.

John will be missed by his sisters Charlotte Tretter, Louise Burger and Dolores Bueno. His brothers James Barela and Jerry Barela and sister Vera Barela, preceded him in death.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 28th, at the chapel at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch. We invite friends and family to celebrate John’s life and honor his memory.
