John Pitts (Big John, DJ) born March 7, 1948, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2022, at the age of 74. John grew up in Denver, CO, but called Trinidad home for the last 35 years. John graduated from South High School in Denver in 1967 and was drafted to the Vietnam war in August 1968. He served until 1970 and after the war he worked as a carpenter, truck driver for Budweiser, Las Animas sheriff and overall was a jack of all trades.

John loved to hunt and shoot. He went to school for gunsmithing in Trinidad. He also loved his motorcycles, however John’s greatest love besides his wife Kelly, was his dogs (kids).

John was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elinor Pitts and his wife Kelly (Fredericks) Pitts. John is survived by his dog Thor, his sister Mary (Edward) Trevena, nephews and nieces, Troy (Andrea) Trevena, Jondon (Kelly) Trevena, Jerica (Winston) Martin, Tawnika Trevena, Jhantel Oberhill, Jathan (Michelle) Trevena and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of John’s life on August 13th, 2022, at Fort Wootton in Trinidad Colorado at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please bring a side dish to share as John sure loved to eat!
