LISA MARIE LOPEZ (WHELAN)

Lisa Marie Lopez, precious child of God, beautiful daughter, niece, cousin, friend to many and stepmother to Joshua has received her angel wings when she passed from this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father on April 5, 2023. Lisa was born on August 5, 1983, the only daughter of Gerald ‘Jerry’ and Rosemary Whelan. Lisa Marie was born in Raton, New Mexico and raised in Trinidad, Colorado. She attended Trinidad Catholic High School, graduating in 2001. She attended Adams State University for a few years, only to relocate to Denver, CO where she pursued a career with Colorado Department of Corrections. In 2011, she married David Lopez, within that marriage she became the stepmother to her only child, Joshua Lopez. Joshua made Lisa’s life complete. They shared a very special bond and spent many wonderful moments together.

She watched him grow into the wonderful young man he is now. She was so incredibly proud of him. Lisa loved spending her time with her family and friends. She loved going to concerts with her best cousins and closest friends. Lisa enjoyed her precious dogs Yoda, Conrad, Chewy and Ringo. She always enjoyed a sit-down meal at her favorite restaurants, supporting her favorite sports teams and helping any person in need that she could. Lisa had the sweetest sense of humor and had a heart of a hero. Her gentle hugs and smile made you feel her warmth. Although, Lisa never had children of her own, she loved her cousins’ children. She always made the effort to be a part of their lives. She loved the holidays; making special memories with her family and friends meant a lot to Lisa. Whatever the occasion, Lisa and her mother were there; she never wanted to miss a moment. Lisa was so incredibly kind; and, her generosity was never unnoticed. Lisa was blessed with knowing many people and many people loved her dearly.

She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. We love our sweet ‘LeeLee’, our Guardian Angel now. Always and forever in our hearts. Lisa is preceded in death by her beloved father, Gerald ‘Jerry’ Whelan, grandmother Maria Giron, grandfather Romaldo and Elizabeth (Honey) Bueno, aunt Priscilla Whelan Arsenian and uncle Edward Marquez.
