Robert Monroe Van Matre, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2022, in Colorado City, CO.
He was born January 5, 1932 in Hoehne, CO. to Florence (Hoadley) and Juddy M. Van Matre.
Both parents died on May 10, 1946 in a house fire.
Also preceding him in death are brothers Albert Van Matre, Marshall (Gen) Van Matre, Juddy “Jack” (Margaret) Van Matre Jr., Larry (Marie) Van Matre, and brother in law Roy Medina.
Robert went to the 9th grade in school and was self educated from then on.
Robert worked road construction for many years and after 25 years of service. He retired from B&N Railroad, mostly working in the Texas area.
He loved hard work, trading cars, watching the Denver Nuggets and looking out for everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth, home address, children, Roy (Marilyn) Van Matre, Kathy (Don ) Berg, Leslie (Dennis) Hollingsworth, grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelli Dochter) Van Matre, Andy (Stephanie) Berg, great grandchildren, Bryan Williams, Lauryn Van Matre, Katelyn Van Matre, sister Joan (Don) Musso, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Robert will be missed but he enjoyed every day and lived life to the fullest.
At his request, cremation with private family services and inurnment.
