Last week, a social media user took to the web to share with others that someone stole money from the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art donation box.

Later that day, the museum confirmed that the claim was true and that they had raised around $150,000 over the last year toward its capital campaign.

“Someone walked into the [A.R. Mitchell] today and stole all of their donations,” Suzanne Magnuson said on social media. “If you’re going to go to First Friday (Art Walk), please bring some cash money for them. They work so hard and do so much for the community.”

Later that day, the museum’s official social media account stated, “Many of you have heard that a member of our community stole the money from our donation jars. The police have been notified and are actively looking for a suspect. We are tightening down our security protocols to ensure the safety of future donations. We sure are angry about it, but we are not going to let it get us down! In the last year we have raised $150,000 towards our capital campaign from this amazing community and can’t thank you enough for that. Tomorrow is First Friday! Come out and see all the fresh new art, and let’s put the negativity behind us.”
