As Trinidad struggles with teacher shortage, Trump administration funding cuts could exacerbate issue

Last Friday, Apr. 4, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to uphold the Trump administration’s termination of $600 million in teacher-training grants, which could have a significant and immediate impact on rural communities struggling with teacher shortages, including Trinidad, with Trinidad State Collage being one of the partners for a teacher preparation program.

City Council faces criticism over transparency, unhoused situation, police training room essay that suggests ‘harmful’ practices

On Apr. 1, during its regular meeting, The Trinidad City Council faced scrutiny as residents took to City Hall to voice concerns over transparency in city projects, the handling of homelessness and a controversial essay displayed in the police training room for the past seven years.

Coalition for unhoused introducing new, experienced members to address homelessness population in Trinidad

During the City of Trinidad’s City Council regular meeting, Det. Sgt Lay, who is also a chair for the Trinidad and Huerfano County Coalition for the Unhoused, introduced Chelsea Meece as the new systems coordinator for the organization along with a new co-responder, Alfia Lane for the Trinidad Police Department, to provide insight on better serving the community and unhoused population within the city.

Trinidad’s 2024 budget sees 12% decrease from 2023 adopted budget following calls from city manager for flat dept. budgets

Trinidad’s finance department developed a 2024 budget that will see reduced allocations following calls from the Trinidad City Manager Office for “flat” budget proposals from city department heads, according to a draft budget shared with Trinidad City Council in early-October.
