LAC emergency manager commends Apogaea board of directors for decision to shut down festival amid fentanyl spiking risk  

Joe Richards, Las Animas County’s emergency manager, was chopping wood on the night of Friday, June 6, when he received a call from Apogaea’s board of directors, seeking his advice on how to proceed after multiple drinks tested positive for fentanyl.

Friction between ambulance district, hospital draws crowd to county courthouse

A crowd packed the county courthouse as the Las Animas County Board of County Commissioners held a public hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 28, to consider Trinidad Ambulance District’s amendment for its service plan and adoption of a resolution which would, according to the TAD, convert the organization from an ambulance district to a health service district, expanding their services and provide additional care.
