Vera Ortiz, 95, died Feb. 17, 2022, at the Trinidad Inn Nursing Home. She was born to Henry and Lucy (Mendoza) Trujillo in Valdez, Colo. She was very active,
She was very active, enjoyed bowling, participated in many bowling tournaments, golfed, took many road trips with her best friend, Marie, was an active “fisherwoman.” Her favorite spot to fish Monument Lake was at the ʻthe rocks.” She gardened, maintained a beautiful rose garden up until she entered the nursing home. She was a great sports fan and loved her Broncos. She also enjoyed the Rockies and attended several games. Among her greatest accomplishments was going to nursing school. She began her career as a CNA, then became an LPN, then received her RN license. She worked at Mt. San Rafael Hospital and at the Trinidad Inn Nursing Home for 27 years. After retiring, she did volunteer work in the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd Ortiz, granddaughter Amy Ortiz, siblings Ophelia Fernandez, Maria Martinez, Connie Day, Henry “Juno” Trujillo Jr.
She is survived by her children Veralee (George) Sutherland, Bill (Releta) Ortiz, Gaylene (Rod) Carson; sisters Dolores Abeyta, JoAnn Dominguez, Lillian Briones; brothers Juan Trujillo and Augustine Trujillo; grandchildren George Sutherland Jr., John Sutherland, Lisa Velasquez, Elizabeth Carson and Joey Carson; great-grandchildren Aspen Englen, Tyler McCray, Isaiah Sutherland, Tristen Velasquez, Marisa Velasquez, Ocean Puston, Searra Gomez Garcia, Rio Gomez; great-great granddaughter Harlow Tigerlily Poston; numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 12: 30 p. m. at Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home. A private inurnment will follow at a later date.
The family requests in honor of Vera, medical personnel wear scrubs or something with Bronco colors.
The family has entrusted Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home with the arrangements.
